Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes Recipe for Holiday Tables

Have you heard of the TV series “Southern Uncovered With The Lee Bros”?

In each episode of Southern Uncovered, Matt and Ted explore a different Southern city to reveal the unexpected sides of Southern cuisine and culture. The brothers aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty—or lace up their dancing shoes—as they introduce viewers to the people, places, and plates that define the South beyond common stereotypes. Over the six-episode series, Matt and Ted highlight the food, art, and culture of Charleston, Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, Asheville, and Louisville.

I’ve never been to the South, but I would love to visit someday and indulge in the regional food.

Southern food always seems better when you’re actually there. I’ve tried many takes on Southern dishes, but authentic flavors can be hard to find outside the region.

I recreated a bit of Southern comfort in my own kitchen with these candied sweet potatoes. They’re a touch healthier because I used coconut oil, yet they remain rich and satisfying.

The coconut oil I used was Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. It has a clean, rich flavor and minimal processing, which I prefer. It’s cold-pressed and organic, giving it a pure, pleasant taste that worked well in this dish.

The sweet potatoes turned out soft, sweet, and best enjoyed warm.
