These Aren’t Fake — These Stones Rock!

Mint Oreo Truffles — irresistibly good and simple to make. These may even rival the original Oreo truffles. Because I could only find Cool Mint Double Stuf Oreos, I adjusted the proportions slightly from the standard recipe. The result is a creamy, minty truffle coated in chocolate and decorated for festive flair. Here’s the recipe and method.

Mint Oreo Truffles
Yield: three dozen truffles

Mint Oreo Truffles

Ingredients

  • 1 package Double Stuf Oreos — Cool Mint flavor
  • • Use 22 cookies with cream centers included
  • • Use 10 cookies with cream centers discarded
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, at room temperature
  • Chocolate, white, or green candy coating for dipping

Instructions

  1. Finely crush the cookies using a food processor. Alternatively, place cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin until very fine.
  2. Stir the softened cream cheese into the crushed cookies. Use the back of a large spoon to press and mash the mixture until it is fully combined and uniform.
  3. Portion the mixture and roll into 1-inch balls. Place the formed balls on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
  4. Cover and chill the truffles in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes. This helps them keep their shape when dipped.
  5. Melt the candy coating according to package directions. Dip each truffle into the melted coating, tap off excess, and set aside on the wax paper-lined sheet to dry.
  6. Once coated, refrigerate the truffles briefly to set the coating. Serve chilled and enjoy.
  7. To decorate: prepare small shamrock shapes or other accents in green and/or white candy coating. Pipe the shapes using a zip-top bag with a small corner snipped or a piping bag with a small round tip. A toothpick can help guide the chocolate into the desired shape. Allow decorations to dry completely.
  8. Dip half the truffles in white coating and the other half in green coating. While the coating is still wet, gently press the cooled decorations onto the tops of the truffles.
  9. For an alternate finish, drizzle a contrasting color over each truffle using a small zip-top bag or spoon to create a decorative stripe.

I used a brand of green candy melts purchased at a craft store and white chocolate bark from a supermarket for the coatings. If you don’t have those on hand, there are many candy coating brands available in craft and grocery stores that work well for dipping and decorating.
