This was our first deployment homecoming with kids, so it was the first time I truly cared about capturing the moment in photos. I love any excuse to plan things in detail—birthday parties, daily photo projects, and family trips—so coordinating outfits and packing for possible weather changes helped me stay focused on the end result. We were fortunate: although it was cold, cloudy, and there were a few drops of rain, the conditions were actually quite decent for February. (If that sounds familiar, you’ve probably spent time in New England — cold and drizzly counts as “good”.)
All the beautiful photos here were taken by Anna Sawin of Anna Sawin Photography, who graciously stepped in when our original photographer’s schedule changed. I was nervous about the idea of taking the pictures myself—this was one time I really wanted to be in the images, too.
I’m sharing a lot of pictures because I couldn’t narrow them down more—this is the edited selection!
